3.4.1 Extension activities are carried out in the neighborhood community, sensitizing students to social issues, for their holistic development, and impact thereof during the last five years.
Response :
The NSS cell is established in the institute in 2016 as per the norms of affiliating University, SPPU. The primary goal of these activities is to focus on an individual student level, the institutional level and at the broader community level. The participation of students in NSS activities enables them to develop spirit of responsible citizenship (mission of the institute). Presently there are 50 students registered with NSS cell, as per criteria of University, however in various events, students participate in more numbers. Faculty members from each department are involved in the NSS. NSS unit has developed a system wherein BE and TE students work as mentor and FE & SE students helps in planning and executing various activities held under NSS. These activities complement the university’s academic curriculum and to augment the student’s educational experience.
Institute has planned and executed various social activities at two nearby villages namely Bakori and Dongargaon, Taluka -Haveli and Dist- Pune. During A.Y.2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 a seven day during each A.Y. residential camps were arranged in the said villages in which 25 students (As per University rule, both boys and girls) participated. This helped them in building a rapport with the villagers and an understanding of their problems. Various activities such as tree plantation, cleaning of temple, river and crematorium, adult education, were undertaken by NSS students for the development of the village. Institute promotes these activities by providing available resources and other facilities. However during covid-19 pandemic, i.e. during A.Y. 2019-20 and 2020-21, NSS activities could not be conducted in physical mode .But various webinars, were organized on social issues, such as boosting of immunity, importance of vaccination, stress management, career counseling and expert talks on emerging technology and motivation, were organized.
The NSS Cell, SWO (Student welfare office) and other Departments in collaboration with different agencies, trusts, NGOs, hospitals etc. conduct extension activities to address local issues and sensitize students for their holistic development. The motto of the Cell is Not Me But You. The Cell has been very vibrant and active with a unit of 50 volunteers. It conducts regular meetings of volunteers to discuss the plan of action.
Digital Literacy, Electrical Safety Awareness, Village adoption Under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Unity Rally and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan are major activities in which the cell has taken major initiatives under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Tree Plantation, Water Audit, Energy Audit Survey, Energy and Water Conservation, Use of Solar Energy and Biogas, Blood Donation Camp, International Yoga Day, National Voters Day, Jal Diwas Abhiyan, distribution of Food and Notebooks to children in nearby Ashram school Sanvidhan Divas are the various activities carried out by NSS in last five years.NSS is useful not only for the development of the students personality but it also helps promote the unity and integrity of the nation by bringing together young people from diverse geographical and social cultural back grounds.
